Image Tagging Image:Corning_Headquarter_Riverfront.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Corning_Headquarter_Riverfront.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File tagging File:Will_Rogers_Eleanor_Roosevelt.gif
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Will_Rogers_Eleanor_Roosevelt.gif. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Will_Rogers_Eleanor_Roosevelt.gif]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File source is not properly indicated: File:United_States_Tobacco_States.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:United_States_Tobacco_States.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:File:United_States_Tobacco_States.jpg]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Photograph inquiry
[edit]You have a great photograph of violins and bows at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Violins_different_sizes.jpg
Would you have a copy of this in a higher resolution that we might be able to obtain permission to use in an upcoming exhibition? We are working on a traveling exhibit about endangered trees called Vanishing Acts, scheduled to open in fall 2011. There is more information about the exhibit at www.mortonarb.org/vanishingacts
Thanks for any help you can give.
- Unfortunately, I don't have a version with higher resolution anymore, but if it is of any help for you to use this version, you are very welcome to do so. --Stilfehler (talk) 13:12, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

File:Sunscreen lotion.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States - Thank You!
[edit]Hi there! Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States. We're excited to see people uploading thousands of photos from all over the country! You and others have collectively uploaded 4,929 photos so far, all of which are viewable at Category:Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States (sorted by state).
We encourage you to continue contributing through the rest of the month. Uploading your photos of monuments isn't the only way to contribute, however. If you're interested, we have compiled a list of auxiliary ways to contribute - which include improving Wikipedia's coverage of historic and cultural sites, as well as finding existing free photos that can be shared on the Commons. While these contributions don't count towards the contest, we are still keeping track of them and they are great ways to contribute to the spirit of the project.
If you are interesting in contributing to Wikipedia, WikiProject National Register of Historic Places is also great place to start. The WikiProject showcases the work that has been done so far in covering NRHP sites, and can also help you find articles that need improving.
If you're on Twitter, give us a follow @WLMUnitedStates for updates, news, and more.
If you have any questions between now or the end of the month, feel free to leave a message on my talk page. Thank you! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 09:28, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

to your userpage!Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,700 people contribute over 11,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. In addition to National Register of Historic Places sites, we welcomed uploads of sites designated by state- and local-level historical institutions and societies. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate Wikipedia articles!
We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States! We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret having to narrow it down to just 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other various national contests as they are announced, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 winners.
Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all participants in the United States to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, and we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 06:28, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Please consider adding iw-links here on Commons
[edit]Dear Stilfehler,
Thanks for creating new categories here on Commons as you did recently for Category:Usonia Historic District. It would be great if you could as well add the interwiki-link to the corresponding page on en-wikipedia by clicking here on commons in the sidebar menu under 'In Wikipedia' on 'Add links' and then putting in the appearing pop-up box the link to the corresponding article on en-wikipedia. This will add a link to commons to all language versions of the corresponding article on en-wikipedia. Moreover this will avoid the corresponding article to be included in the maintenance category en:Category:Commons category template with no category set.
Many thanks if you could consider to do so, indeed this would reduce my efforts on adding these iw links later through patrolling the pages listed on the pre-mentioned category on en-wikipedia. I would like to thank you for all the great work you are realizing on en-wikipedia and here on commons.
If you have any further questions on this do not hesitate to contact me. Best regards and my very best wishes for you for the New Year. Robby (talk) 08:13, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- I actually already did with {{Commonscat}}. But I will keep this in mind for the future. Best wishes! --Stilfehler (talk) 15:31, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- Indeed adding {{Commonscat}} just adds a unilateral link from the wiki to put this template to the correponding category here on commons, while using the procedure I described adds the information to wikidata in this example cf https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7902083 and so a link to corresponding category here on commons will appear in the sidebar menu of all language versions for the concerned article. Best regards and many thanks for your efforts on this issue. Robby (talk) 22:51, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Historical kitchens
[edit]I do not think that photos of fairly modern kitchens taken in recent years belong in "historical kitchens" categories. Thank you for your attention. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:05, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- There is quite a difference between a kitchen of the 80s or 90s and a kitchen of today. But I see what your point is. Thanks for letting me know. Stilfehler (talk) 23:07, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, there are Category:Kitchens by decade. Category:Historical kitchens unfortunately does not have a definition, but from most use it seems either kitchens preserved as they were at historical time, like in museums or historic places, or old (20th century or earlier) photos. I don't think it's for kitchens in houses that haven't been updated much in recent years but are still in regular use like File:Would you like a cocktail? - In the Kitchen, New Orleans, Feb 2012.jpg - much less File:Magazine Street Kitchen New Orleans.jpg which would look to most people in the US as fairly up-to-date. Suggestions for improving or making clearer categories welcome. Best wishes, -- 23:41, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- I notice the first two editors Category:Historical kitchens of haven't been on Commons since 2007 and 2011 respectively, so we can't ask them what they intended! I brought up the question at Category talk:Historical kitchens. If you have thoughts on how best to use the categories, your comments are welcome. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:54, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- I don't have an a good idea at the moment. Another problem is that many media within Category:Kitchens by decade seem to be wrongly classified, namely by the year of the photography and not by the year of construction. To fix that, we would need either a kitchen historian or painstaking research work, in many cases it may be even impossible to identify the decade exactly. (This is why I took such a fancy into Category:Historical kitchens in the United States: saves you the age determination.) But as I said, I have no problem understanding that the categorization of current kitchens as "historical" (no matter how outdated they appear) may feel inappropriate to most users. Thanks again, Stilfehler (talk) 00:06, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request, as linked above: not including year, month, or day; not creating the subpage; and not transcluding. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests." — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:11, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, it is very helpful. I will make sure that this won't happen anymore. Apologies and thanks again, Stilfehler (talk) 23:16, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
